Quite why the style is so prevalent is unclear but the double gabled Caithness style Free Church buildings are often found in villages throughout the county, many are now abandoned and boarded up or used as business premises. Many of the buildings date to the earliest days of the Free Church and Shebster Free Church falls into that category. The Free Church was established in 1843 and the following year saw the completion of the Shebster site.
The Shebster building is almost a ruin, there is no roof and despite the boarded windows and doors on the front facade no glass, doors or interior remain.
